(Washington, DC) On Monday, May 21st, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Prime Osborn Convention Center located at 1000 Water Street, in Jacksonville, Florida, Congresswoman Corrine Brown, along with the City of Jacksonville and Mayor Alvin Brown, Florida State College at Jacksonville, Jacksonville Aviation Authority, Jacksonville Transportation Authority, Jacksonville Port Authority, Jacksonville Electric Authority, Worksource, Goodwill, and Jacksonville Urban League), will host the 20th annual job and resource fair for the city of Jacksonville and surrounding area. This year’s event, which is expected to be the largest yet, will be the fourth consecutive year that the Job Fair will be held at the Jacksonville Convention Center.
Last year in fact, over 140 employers and resource agencies, and approximately 14,000 enthusiastic job seekers attended, and this year’s event will attract even more employers and resources. Over 150 companies and more than forty agencies have confirmed already. Various companies that have already confirmed include: Bank of America/Merrill Lynch, who has announced that they have 400 available positions in the Jacksonville area, as well as Novitas Solutions, who will be bringing 200 jobs to the city of Jacksonville.
Additionally, Crowley Maritime, CSX, Comcast, Walmart, Saft America, Inc., Community First Credit Union, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Jacksonville Federal Credit Union, Lender Processing Center (LPS), Baptist Medical Center, St. Vincent’s Health Care, Shands Jacksonville, 7-Eleven, UPS, North Florida Shipyards, Vistakon, Kangaroo, Winn-Dixie, Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, Department of Veteran Affairs, IRS, Florida Highway Patrol, Duval County Health Department, and many, many more businesses, as well as local government and federal agencies will also be in attendance.
Moreover, numerous Pre-Job Fair workshops are currently taking place through WorkSource Florida, Goodwill Industries Job Junctions and Jacksonville Urban League throughout the city. Applicants can also access those employers who will be attending the Job Fair to apply immediately on-line for available positions and later meet these prospective employers at the event. The Congresswoman has also invited a number of Resource and Social Service agencies to this year’s Job Fair to discuss their programs and services with job applicants. The 2012 Job and Resource Fair will also present on-site mini-workshops to help applicants sharpen their job-seeking skills. And Work Source Florida is also providing 100 computers for job seekers’ use, and assistance with online applications and employment services. Attendees will be able to meet with advisors from Wealth Watchers and NACA (The Neighbourhood Assistance Corporation of America) regarding mortgage assistance, and find information on the Hardest-Hit Fund.
“With so many people in Florida out of work, this is, unfortunately, an extraordinarily difficult time for job seekers both in the state of Florida, as well as around the nation. That said, attendance at the Job Fair is even more important this year, since it will provide a great opportunity for those searching for work to network and speak directly with employers,” said Congresswoman Brown.
Please come prepared, dress for success, bring copies of your resume and meet a broad cross-section of employers and agencies!
